UC Concert Choir & University Singers-Spring Concert

The University of Charleston Concert Choir and University Singers will present their annual Spring Concert at 3 p.m., Sunday, April 27, in the Erma Byrd Art Gallery, third floor, Riggleman Hall, on the UC campus. The concert will feature secular and sacred works by composers including J.S. Bach, Lloyd Pfautch, William Billings, Salomone Rossi, and a medley from the Broadway show “The Secret Garden.” The 30-voice choir is conducted by Dr. Joseph Janisch. The concert will last approximately one hour and a half and will feature music from the United States, Europe, and Africa. There is no admission charge

Dr. Joseph Janisch is the Director of Choral Activities, Assistant Professor of Music and Chair of the Department of Humanities at the University of Charleston in Charleston, WV where he conducts the Concert Choir and University Singers and teaches courses in music education, and the humanities. In addition to his work at the UC, Janisch conducts the West Virginia Symphony Chorus. As the conductor of the symphony chorus he prepares two major choral works annually. Dr. Janisch received a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from The Ohio State University, a Master of Music degree from Bowling Green State University, and a Bachelor of Music degree from Ashland (Ohio) University.

Janet M. Brightbill, the accompanist for the groups, has been an accompanist, piano teacher, and church pianist for many years. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education from the University of Charleston. While at UC, Janet studied piano with Catherine Walker. Presently, she teaches piano at Bible Center Christian School and is a piano instructor at the University of Charleston. She is a pianist at Bible Center Church, and accompanies the UC Concert Choir, University Singers, and the West Virginia Symphony Chorus.
